Bishop / Stake President Administrative Action

Once a copy of your resignation letter has reached your local Ward Bishop, the Bishop of the LDS Ward that you live in must fill out a request entitled, "Request for administrative action". This details your request to have your membership removed. The Bishop must then forward a copy of said letter to the Stake President.
The Stake President will fill out the necessary information on the "administrative action", and then place the form aside for a 30 day waiting period. Sometimes the Bishop will be the one to sit on the paperwork for 30 days. Sometimes both of them sit on it for 30 days. Many times the Bishop will igore your request and attempt to reactivate you either through visiting, calling, sending Home or Visiting Teachers or even the missionaries.
The process is designed to stall you from legally resigning. Your tithing is very important to them. NOTE: Those who have used attorneys to send their letter to the Mormon Church have been able to resign much faster.
The rule of thumb if all goes well is 45 total days. This is the total time for your letter to reach and be processed by Mormon Church Membership Records, for that request to be forwarded to the local Bishop, for that paperwork to be completed and forwarded to the Stake President, and for that paperwork to then be sent back to Membership Records, and last but not least, a final termination letter sent to you stating your name has been removed.
Be patient, but be strong and persevere.
If you have not heard any response from Membership records - re-send your resignation letter or call Membership Records. If you have received your "please come back" letter - but over 30 days has passed without receiving your final termination letter - contact Member Records via phone:
